Daniel Lemmon
Daniel Lemmon was born hearing but at age 2 he had a severe reaction to MMR vaccination before being diagnosed as profoundly deaf. Daniel moved to Perth with his family at age 4 so he could attend a pre-school program at the Speech & Hearing Centre (now known as Telethon Speech & Hearing).
He was taught how to speak and listen and was able to be integrated at St Lukes Catholic Primary School and spent his senior school years at Servite College. During those years he received assistance from the speech and hearing outpost program.
Daniel went on to TAFE to do a pre-apprenticeship Electrical course but when the employers proved reluctant to take on a hearing impaired electrical apprentice he took on a Wall and Ceiling fixing apprenticeship completing it in 2007.
Daniel has a hearing daughter Isabella Rose born in 2007, the highlight of his life. Daniel’s hobbies and activities include reading books, diving, sailing, fishing, camping, trying out new technologies and being involved in physical recreation such as football, basketball and swimming. He loves all types of music and dancing.
Daniel is excited at the opportunity to be a mentor for Hear For You because he knows what its like to go through life with hearing impairment. He understands the frustration and stress associated with this. He feels he has learnt the hard way how to deal with deafness.
Daniel now wants to make life easier for other young deaf people, to help them remain positive and happy and to help break down their boundaries.
