David Brady ~ Biography

David BradyBorn profoundly deaf. He has a younger brother and sister who are both hearing. He grew up in the rural town of Armidale, NSW, where there were no deaf peers within his age group.

David’s parents were given a choice: send David to a specialist school in Sydney or stay in Armidale and enrol David in mainstream schools with support from the local town's deaf unit. His parents decided on the Armidale option.

At that time, there were only two specialist teachers in the north-west region of NSW. It was a struggle. Despite this, David overcame the challenges and studied hard to qualify for University.

David was awarded “Collegian of the Year” at the University of NSW by his peers for his enthusiasm and contribution to residential college activities. He now has a Master’s Degree in Science (Sports Management) and works as a National Business Operations Manager for Touch Football Australia in their head office.

David represented Australia at the 2005 Deaflympic Games in water polo. He enjoys coaching hockey, soccer and water polo. David sees life as a challenge and being naturally enthusiastic and competitive, he loves undertaking new experiences showing everyone that being deaf does not really hold you back.

His motto: "Simply find a way to achieve whatever it is you want in life.”
