Michael Allen
Michael Allen is 27 and lives in Auckland. He is currently working in the marketing, communications and web team at the University of Auckland Business School.
Michael enrolled in the Bachelor of Communication Studies at Auckland University of Technology and went on to major in public relations. He worked extra hard at university to prove he could make it in the tough communications industry despite his hearing loss. In the final year of his degree, he landed a PR internship at Coca-Cola and was later named the top public relations graduate in 2005.
Following graduation, Michael became a consultant at PR firm Baldwin Boyle Group and was part of Fonterra’s communications team for nearly 4 years. Michael has had a profound hearing loss since birth and wore hearing aids in both ears until he received a cochlear implant at the age of 16. Ten years later, he received a second cochlear implant.
Michael never had a mentor when he was growing up, so he is excited about Hear For You and this opportunity to help young deaf people overcome their hearing difficulties and live life to the full.
