Nick Doyle
Nick Doyle was diagnosed as profoundly deaf when only a few months old. Both of his parents and older brother are hearing and Nick credits his family to helping him get to where he is today.
At a young age, his parents were advised that Nick should learn sign language to help him communicate and to give him the best chance in life. With determination and foresight from his parents and speech therapists, Nick learnt to speak and lipread and went to mainstream schools throughout his entire education.
Nick says, ‘It was a struggle in my later years at school as the support from the local authority was less than when I was younger. It seemed that once I had gone onto secondary school, it was almost as if they thought their job was finished. In fact, I needed them more than ever.’
This is a stage where Nick believes Hear For You can step in and guide hearing impaired teenagers with support and advice that he wished he had had years ago.
Nick, who is a keen sportsman, played semi-professional rugby in England and represented England Deaf Cricket at the World Cup in India, 2005. He also represented England Deaf Rugby against other international deaf teams.
Nick now works as a Chartered Financial Accountant at Verizon Business. Nick is English and moved to Melbourne in 2005 with his hearing wife in search of the wonderful lifestyle Australia has to offer - a decision that neither of them has regretted.
Nick’s motto is: Just Do It! ("Okay, I stole that one from Nike!")
