Program Content

The Hear For You mentoring program, which is spread over six months, consists of:

  • Four group workshops (during school term)
  • E-Mentoring using online one-to-one communication
  • Session for parents of mentees

Hear For You also hosts a retreat for older age groups once a year.


Workshops
Below is a synopsis of the topics that will be covered.

Identity
Who am I? What are my values? What is important to me? What do I stand for? How do I feel about others?

Relationship
My family & their associates. Friends, acquaintances & strangers. Relationships - where do I fit in?

Communication
Conversation techniques and advice. Negotiation skills. Conflict resolution. Email and SMS etiquette.

Leadership & Teamwork
Understanding the dynamics of leadership and teamwork and how the two work together. The concept of shared leadership is introduced.

Health & Wellbeing
Fitness, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, growing up and physical development. This session will be held in conjunction with youth experts.

Careers
Differences between job and career, career planning, preparing a resume, writing a job application, the job interview. It is never too early to start talking about jobs, careers and applying for jobs!

Drama Workshop
Drama is an excellent way of acting out responses in certain scenarios to improve confidence and communication.


E-Mentoring
Between workshops, mentees will keep in contact with their mentor via online chat. Mentees will be given topics at the workshops to take home to think about and discuss online with their mentor. This also gives mentees an opportunity to discuss issues with their mentor privately, away from the group sessions.
